How much do you need to pay for package holidays to Transylvania?
Our unforgettable Halloween and Vampire itineraries are priced depending on length and inclusions. Factors like the quality of accommodation (3-4 or 5 stars) also affect the final price of your tour.
Choose our guaranteed Transylvania tours, with set departure dates and schedules. These itineraries depart as long as the minimum number of travelers is reached. On the other hand, our catalog also includes private tours, departing on customer request. You will travel with your group of friends / family members only, making this a more intimate experience. Since we offer the same high-quality services for your group only, these itineraries are a bit more expensive, but well worth the price!
On average, a 7-days itinerary costs around €1200 – if you choose to share a double room with a fellow traveler. If you prefer accommodation in a single room, you will have to acquire the ‘Single Supplement’ as well. For a 3-days short break, you will have to pay – on average – around €650/person.

The group leader, which is the accompanying teacher, gets to travel free of charge. For the other members, the price depends on the Study Trip. We have two versions of the 11-days journey: “Transylvania’s Undying Legend’, which costs €1287 or €1576 for single rooms and “Dracula Tours for Schools” (€1557 or €1837 for single rooms).
Meanwhile, the 10-days itinerary from Budapest includes 3 fun parties – our amazing event in Sighisoara Citadel, the popular Halloween Party at Bran Castle and a third party which takes place at a location we will reveal soon. This tour costs €1790 or €1999 for single rooms.

The Cost of Food in Romania
During our amazing package holidays to Transylvania, we include meals such as breakfasts and dinners, so you most likely won’t feel the need to buy food on your own. Still, on some days, we provide the option to enjoy lunch on your own account. In this case, statistics from websites such as Budget Your Trip reveal that the average cost of food in Romania is 104 lei/day. Take into account, though, that this calculation is based on three meals / day, but we already offer breakfast and dinner, so the price for lunch alone should be much lower.
While meal prices in Romania can vary, the average cost of food in Romania is lei104 per day. Based on the spending habits of previous travelers, when dining out an average meal in Romania should cost around lei41 per person. Breakfast prices are usually a little cheaper than lunch or dinner. The price of food in sit-down restaurants in Romania is often higher than fast food prices or street food prices.
Budget Your Trip
Price for Transportation in Romania
Budget Your Trip also gives us valuable information about transportation costs. Apparently, travelers spend about 79 lei / person on local transportation.
While our tours include transfer by bus from a set meeting point to each objective included, you might need to use the bus, the subway or even a taxi during your stay in Romania.
For starters, the cheapest option is to travel by bus or subway. You should know that these means of transportation are usually very crowded. Watch out for petty thieves who are able to empty your purse before you can realize what happened.
Taxi rides are more expensive, but this way you avoid spending time in a crowded place and you avoid pickpockets and petty thieves. However, taxi rides carry their own risks – such as shady drivers who are trying to take advantage of foreigners and circle them around in order to increase the sum on the meter. Some drivers try to negotiate the cost upfront and keep the meter off. You should not accept such an ‘offer’ because most of the time you end up paying a lot more than the ride is worth this way. You can avoid all of these if you choose ride sharing services like Uber or Taxify instead as they are both available in big cities.
Is it safe to visit Romania?
Romania is a generally safe country. The Global Terrorist Database places us on 138 out of 163 countries. This certifies that no terrorist attacks have occured here. If you want further proof that our country is safe, check out the Global Peace Index (GPI). This index takes into account militarization, society and security, as well as domestic and interest conflict. Romania is on position 22 out of 163 countries. This means that Romania is one of the safest Eastern European countries.
Crime rate in Romania is below the European average. You don’t need to worry about getting mugged in the streets and usage of weapons is strictly regulated. Still, corruption is at a high level. Beware of situations where authorities propose a ‘mutually beneficial’ solution which may seem outside the law. Always refuse such proposals and insist on legal justification.
Need to Know before your package holidays to Transylvania
- Confirm your passport is valid for 6 months from when you think your trip will end. Don’t get stranded.
- Get comprehensive travel insurance to cover you and your gear. Get insurance that’s right for you and covers your activities in the places you’ll go. Remember, regardless of how healthy and fit you are, if you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.
- Consider your physical and mental health. Get advice from your doctor if you’re unsure.
- See your doctor or travel clinic 8 weeks before you go for a basic health check
- Check if your medication is legal and available in the places you’re going. Take enough of your prescribed medicines to last the whole trip. Carry copies of your prescription and a letter from your doctor.
- Tell your bank you’re travelling and check if your cards will work. Have several payment options.
Driving
As we previously mentioned, we offer transfer during our tours, so you won’t have to drive yourself around. Still, you may wish to extend your stay – for instance in our Capital. If you want to visit some attractions on your own or if you simply need a means of transportation, you may want to get a rental car.
A few pointers if you intend to drive in Romania
- beware of crowded traffic inside cities; drivers don’t always respect the law so you should be extra careful to avoid getting into an upleasant traffic incident
- plan ahead when you have to stop somewhere in the city; free parking spots are usually hard to find
- outside cities you may encounter carts and animals on the road
- because there aren’t many highways in Romania, National Roads are usually more crowded than they should be
Pickpocketing
Our streets are safe from muggings – the chances of something like this happening are slim to none. However, you should watch out for pickpockets. These people are very skilled at what they do, so we recommend not carrying your valuables with you unless it’s really necessary. Otherwise, you should leave them – for instance – in the hotel safe.
While an inexperienced pickpocket will just grab your purse and run, professionals take advantage of their surroundings. Be alert on buses or subways, as these are the perfect places for them to cut your purse open and empty it without you even noticing. Always keep your bag or purse within eyesight to avoid such ‘surprises’.
According to Romanian laws:
- Always carry photo ID – you should keep the original passport or ID card somewhere safe and carry photocopies with you
- You are prohibited from taking photos of airports, military sites or other secure locations (this includes drones – be careful, as you might have a non-pleasant surprise if you accidentally fly a drone in military airspace)
- Penalties for drug offences are severe. Depending on the seriousness of the crime, you can face up to 20 years in jail. Authorities are focusing more on finding the dealers rather than the users, but it’s always best to avoid getting in trouble
Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend getting travel insurance every time you visit a foreign country. You may not understand its benefits at start, but, should something unexpected happen, you will be glad that you have insurance.
Travel Insurance covers all kinds of situations – such as healthcare. If you find yourself in need of medical assistance, you should know that these services can be quite expensive outside your country. Also, you are unlikely to receive free care or subsidized costs. This is where a good insurance comes in and covers all the costs.
