transylvania weekend breaks

Our tailor made tours have two advantages over regular itineraries: you get to depart on a date which suits you best and you can travel with your group of friends or family members only. In this case, the private Halloween Itineraries have to depart on a set date in order to coincide with the Halloween Parties in Transylvania.

This specific itinerary departs on Thursday. Since it carries on until Sunday, it falls under the ‘Transylvania Weekend Breaks’ category. Depart from Bucharest and visit attractions such as Snagov Monastery, where Vlad the Impaler was allegedly buried. On your second day, arrive in Sighisoara Medieval Citadel and attend our fun Halloween Party. Once you recover, travel to the iconic Dracula’s Castle and enjoy the popular party taking place there as well.

On the last day of your tour, visit Pelisor Castle, part of the Royal Residence complex of Peles Palace and then return to Bucharest and drop off at the airport.

The Awarded 7-Days Halloween Tour

transylvania weekend breaks

While this itinerary is not a Weekend Break, we had to include it on this list as it is the flagship of our catalog. Our experienced guide collects you from Bucharest. Visit attractions such as Snagov Monastery, Poienari Fortress or the Medieval Saxon City of Sibiu, where you can discover highlights such as the Liars’ Bridge.

Visit Corvinesti Castle in Hunedoara, an impressive Gothic-style edifice which used to be the home of ruler Iancu de Hunedoara. From here, travel to Turda and visit the unique Turda Salt Mine.

Arrive in Sighisoara Medieval Citadel and join us for our amazing Halloween Party. Enjoy a special program including a breathtaking magic show, an impressive ballet performance and the Ritual of Killing of The Living Dead. The next day, travel to Brasov and enjoy a fun city tour. Discover attractions such as the famous Black Church and then travel to Bran Village. After a delicious traditional dinner, meet our organized group at the entrance to Bran Castle. Take advantage of our ‘skip the ticket office line’ service, go on a unique night tour of the castle and then party till morning on the grounds.

On your last day, visit Pelisor Castle in Sinaia and then return to Bucharest. We provide drop off at your hotel or at the airport.

Is it safe to visit Romania?

transylvania weekend breaks

According to qualified databases, Romania is safe from terrorist attacks (the Global Terrorist Database places us on 138/163 countries). Furthermore, the Global Peace Index, which factors in militarization, society and security as well as domestic and interest conflict, places us on position 22/163 countries. In short, this means that Romania is one of the safest countries in Eastern Europe.

While crime rate is at a very low level, corruption in Romania is still very common. You might find yourself in situations where authorities propose a ‘mutually beneficial’ solution. If the provided solution feels shady that’s because it most likely is. You should refuse such proposals and seek legal justification.

Need to Know before your Transylvania Weekend Breaks

  • Confirm your passport is valid for 6 months from when you think your trip will end. Don’t get stranded.
  • Get comprehensive travel insurance to cover you and your gear. Get insurance that’s right for you and covers your activities in the places you’ll go. Remember, regardless of how healthy and fit you are, if you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.
  • Consider your physical and mental health. Get advice from your doctor if you’re unsure.
  • See your doctor or travel clinic 8 weeks before you go for a basic health check
  • Check if your medication is legal and available in the places you’re going. Take enough of your prescribed medicines to last the whole trip. Carry copies of your prescription and a letter from your doctor.
  • Tell your bank you’re travelling and check if your cards will work. Have several payment options.

Driving

Our itineraries include transfers between attractions. Therefore, if you do not plan on wandering off on your own outside the planned itinerary, you can rest assured as this part is covered for you.

If you intend to extend your stay in Romania, you might find yourself in need of driving to different places on your list. Renting a car is definetly better than using public transportation if you have multiple destinations on your mind. While in traffic, pay attention at your surroundings. Some drivers tend to break the law and perform risky overtakes or cross red lights. When you plan your route, taking parking spots into account as well. Usually, finding a spot that is not occupied can be a real challenge, so it’s better to browse a map and find a parking lot that’s located in the vicinity of your destination.

Outside cities, you will mostly drive on National Roads (we have highways too, but there are not too many and they don’t cover the entirety of your itinerary). National Roads (or DN) are usually quite crowded. You will pass through several villages on the way. Look out for animals or carts on the road around these places.

Pickpocketing

While you don’t have to worry about being mugged in Romania, pickpockets are – unfortunately – present especially in crowded places. You should leave your most valuable items in the hotel safe and only carry what you really need. Pickpockets operate mostly on buses or the subway. Their tactics include cutting your bag / purse open and stealing your belongings. Skilled pickpockets are able to disappear before you can realize what happened. In order to discourage them, always keep your bag or purse within eyesight. They will consider stealing from you too risky and look for another victim.

According to Romanian laws:

  • Always carry photo ID – you should keep the original passport or ID card somewhere safe and carry photocopies with you
  • You are prohibited from taking photos of airports, military sites or other secure locations (this includes drones – be careful, as you might have a non-pleasant surprise if you accidentally fly a drone in military airspace)
  • Penalties for drug offences are severe. Depending on the seriousness of the crime, you can face up to 20 years in jail. Authorities are focusing more on finding the dealers rather than the users, but it’s always best to avoid getting in trouble

Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance is essential whenever you leave your country. While we do our best to ensure that your itinerary takes place without any incidents, some things are out of anyone’s control. Insurance is important in case something unexpected happens.

For instance, you might find yourself in need of medical services. But there’s a problem: the healthcare plan you are subscribed to in your country does not apply in Romania. Furthermore, you most likely won’t receive free care or even subsidized costs. Travel Insurance saves you from serious financial trouble in this case, as your insurer will cover the unexpected costs.

Transylvania Weekend Breaks – Costs

Cost is probably the most important factor anyone considers before purchasing anything. You need to know the price regardless if you are planning your budget or simply trying to figure out if you can afford the respective item. The same applies to our Transylvania Weekend Breaks and to the other itineraries in our catalog.

The price of a tour can be influenced by its length (we organize itineraries ranging from 1-Day City Breaks to the Awarded 7-Days experiences) or the number of inclusions. Furthermore, it depends whether you book a regular itinerary or a tailor made itinerary. The latter departs for your private group only, on a date which suits you best. Since we provide the same high quality services for a smaller group, the costs are going to be higher.

On average, you will have to pay around €1200 for a 7-Days Itinerary, while a 3-Days short break costs around €650/person. These average prices are based on sharing a double room with another traveler. If you prefer a single room, you will also have to pay the ‘Single Supplement’ fee. More information can be found on each tour page.

Costs for 11-Days Study Trips

The 11-Days Study Trips are great for large groups of students. Because we have more time available, these itineraries include a lot more attractions than a regular tour. Discover the best Dracula related places and get acquainted with our culture and traditions. The tour leader (the teacher who accompanies the group) travels free of charge. For the other group members, the prices are different based on which of the two Study Trips you choose:

  • ‘Transylvania’s Undying Legend’ costs €1287 or €1576 for single rooms
  • ‘Dracula Tours for Schools’ can be booked for €1557 or €1837 for single rooms

10-Days Halloween Itinerary, Budapest Departure

Prices for 7-Days Tours in Transylvania

  • The 7-Days Halloween Tour, the highlight of our catalog includes a series of impressive highlights complemented by 3 fun parties. Book it now for €1299 or €1419 for single rooms

3-Days Short Break in Transylvania

The 3-Days Short Breaks are great if you want a glimpse of what Transylvania has to offer before booking our Awarded 7-Days Itineraries. We organize a Vampire edition, which departs on customer request from Cluj-Napoca. A minimum of two people is required for this itinerary. You can book it for €599 or €666 for single rooms.

On Halloween, we organize two versions of the 3-Days Transylvania Weekend Breaks, one departing from Cluj-Napoca and the other one from Bucharest. These itineraries include both our Halloween Party in Sighisoara and the popular party at Dracula’s Castle. Book now for €599 or €666 for single rooms.

2-Days Transylvania Weekend Breaks

Our 2-Days Short Breaks are perfect if you are only interested in attending a fun Halloween Party. These itineraries are centered either on our fun event in Sighisoara Medieval Citadel or on the popular party at Dracula’s Castle.

The 2-Days Halloween experience including our party in Sighisoara Citadel departs from Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu or Brasov. Accommodate in a 3* medieval hotel and join us for an evening you won’t forget! Book now for €439 or €479 for single rooms.

The same itinerary focusing on the Halloween Party at Bran Castle departs from Bucharest and includes a traditional dinner, our ‘skip the ticket office line’ service, a unique night tour of Bran Castle and the best Halloween Party in Transylvania, all for €369 or €399 for single rooms.

1-Day Halloween City Breaks

Our Halloween City Breaks are similar to the 2-Days itineraries, except that these specific experiences do not include transfers. You will have to arrive on your own in Sighisoara or Bran Castle. Accommodate at 3* hotels, enjoy delicious dinners and have fun at our parties.

The City Break in Sighisoara Citadel costs €249, while the one focusing on the Halloween Party at Bran Castle can be booked for €259 or €288 for single rooms.

The cost of food in Romania

Our Transylvania Weekend Breaks usually include two meals per day: a breakfast and a dinner. On certain days, we provide a small break in the schedule during which you can enjoy lunch on your own account. Additionally, if you decided to extend your stay and keep exploring our country on your own, you should probably know how much food costs in Romania.

According to aggregators like Budget Your Trip, travelers spend about 104 lei/day for food in Romania. This price is based on three daily meals.

While meal prices in Romania can vary, the average cost of food in Romania is lei104 per day. Based on the spending habits of previous travelers, when dining out an average meal in Romania should cost around lei41 per person. Breakfast prices are usually a little cheaper than lunch or dinner. The price of food in sit-down restaurants in Romania is often higher than fast food prices or street food prices.

Budget Your Trip

Transportation Costs in Romania

According to the previously mentioned Budget Your Trip website, travelers spend about 79 lei / person on local transportation.

Our Escorted Tours include transfers between attractions by car, minibus or coach depending on the size of the group. If you decide to extend your stay and explore our country further, you should know a few things about transportation.

  • Inside cities, you can travel using the bus or the subway, taxi or even by renting a car, depending on your needs.
  • A bus or the subway is the cheapest option. The downsides are that you have to wait in a station and that these means of transport are usually very crowded. Furthermore, you may encounter petty thieves – pickpockets – who will try to steal your belongings.
  • A taxi is more expensive than the bus, but you get to travel on your own or, at least, only with people you know. Watch out for certain types of drivers who attempt to scam their clients. For instance, if you feel like your driver is circling you around, you should check out your route on a GPS application. Some drivers take advantage of foreigners and increase the sum on the meter by driving them on longer routes or taking unnecessary detours. Another type of scammer is the driver who attempts to negotiate the fare upfront. The amount required will always be larger than what the ride is actually worth.
  • Ridesharing services – such as Uber or Taxify are safe from the practices of taxi drivers. You can see the fare cost in advance and you can check out your route in the app.
